(Act No. 17 of 2017) An Act was enacted to establish the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and make provisions for the purpose of a smooth, planned, and modernised motor vehicle and road transport system in Bangladesh. December 7, 2021 While the Highways Act, 1925 (Act No. III of 1925) has been revoked, new laws are needed to create a modern, advanced, and efficient highway transportation system. These laws should include safe and dynamic traffic, modern highway construction, development, operation, management, and maintenance methods to keep highways safe. Chapter 1: The Beginning 1.0 Introduction 1.1 The increase in the emission of harmful greenhouse gases (GHGs) or carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is one of the main reasons for global warming. The use of electric vehicles (EVs) has become increasingly important in the worldwide fight against global warming by reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuel-based automobiles. In addition, the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) has pledged to unconditionally reduce 3.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from the transport sector in Bangladesh by 2030.
